Reduce PFAS From Your Family’s Water With One Efficient System

Water all over the country has frequently been positive for lead, cysts, and PFOA/PFOS, and our area is not exempt. These chemicals have been found to exceed the levels set forth by health advisory organizations and may cause health problems.

Eighteen million Americans live in communities where the water systems are in violation of the law. As a mater of fact, the federal agency in charge of making sure those systems are safe not only know these issues exist, they’ve done little to stop them, according to information provided by CNN, which cites multiple sources and water experts.

Our goal is not to scare anyone into getting water treatment, however, educating our local community about water quality is a top priority. We’ve worked with many local families to improve their water and to provide peace-of-mind, knowing the water they drink and bathe in is free of harmful contaminants.

Contact us today to learn more about our professionally installed and serviced drinking water system that reduces PFOS contamination. Fill out the contact form or call (877) 596-7225!

What are PFAS, PFOA, PFOS and What’s The Difference Between Them?
In a nutshell, PFAS stands for per- and polyflouralkyl substances, which are synthetic chemicals used to make everyday products we all use (your cell phone, your non-stick pans, some food packaging, most things that used to be made at 3M are made of PFAS). PFOA (perfluorooctanoic acid, also referred to as C8) and PFOS (perfluorooctane sulfonate) are simply two types of PFAS, and the difference between the two is the number of carbon atoms in the chain of polyflouralkyl. GenX is also considered a PFAS contaminant. These chemicals have been around for almost 80 years when they started being manufactured in the 1940s. Unfortunately, a lot of chemical waste ends up being dumped in the water supply we drink from. Imagine 80 years of chemical waste contaminating the water we use every day. The Water Quality Association (WQA.org) tells us exposure to PFAS can happen when we eat food grown in soil contaminated by PFAS or drink water that has been contaminated and not properly filtered out. It can also be released through the household products we use to clean our homes. Some potential health risks of PFAS exposure are cancer, a weakened immune system, fertility issues, low birth weight for infants, abnormal levels for cholesterol and thyroid hormones, and inflammation of the liver. Other health-related issues are still under research.

Frequently Asked PFAS Questions:

What is PFAS?

PFAS (polyfluoroalkyl substances) are synthetic organofluorine chemical compounds that have multiple fluorine atoms attached to an alkyl chain. They are a group of man-made chemicals that don’t break down and can accumulate over time. There is evidence that exposure to PFAS can lead to adverse human health effects.

What are PFAS chemicals?

Most notably, PFAS chemicals include PFOA, PFOS, & GenX. According to OECD, there are at least 4730 different PFASs.

What are PFAS used for?

PFAS are used for creating stain and water repellent fabrics, nonstick products (e.g., Teflon), polishes, waxes, paints, cleaning products, and fire-fighting foams.

How to filter PFAS out of water?

In general, PFAS resist most conventional chemical treatment technologies employed by local water municipalities. The strongest proven technologies to filter PFAS out of water include granular activated carbon absorption, ion exchange resins, and reverse osmosis.

What does PFAS do to your body?

Exposure to PFAS may result in negative health effects to your body. Some identified by the EPA include:
Developmental effects to fetuses during pregnancy or to breastfed infants
Developmental effects to children
Testicular or kidney cancer
Liver damage
Immune effects (antibody production and immunity)
Thyroid effects
Cholesterol changes

How to test for PFAS?

To test for PFAS, contact your state for a list of laboratories that are certified to test for PFAS using EPA Method 537. To search online for EPA Certified Labs for drinking water testing, go to the EPA’s website.
